i'm writing a movie

sooo what if i said in may of last year i started working on a script for a film adaptation of Carmilla...

i've taken a few screenwriting classes in my life, and i feel like it is my life's purpose to be the one to write the book accurate adaptation of the first literary depiction of lesbian vampires. i don't even care if it never comes to fruition (i actually do, but that's neither here nor there), but it's been living in my brain since i first read the book and it just needs to be put on a page.

Robert Eggers was the one who inspired me to just take it and run. Nosferatu was the movie he'd worked his whole life to make and he finally did it, and to a degree no one could've ever imagined. the other day i was at the movies with my friends Taylor and Claire, and we finally saw the Werwulf trailer on the big screen. we were gushing over it, and Claire said, "that's the kind of movie only someone from New Hampshire could make." being from New Hampshire, i feel a real kinship with Robert Eggers and his weird gothic mind. because, yes, living in New Hampshire will make you write a movie like The Witch.

as an aspiring writer and director, it brings me so much joy to watch other directors who have such strong visions and styles in their work. Robert Eggers, Guillermo Del Toro, David Lynch. they all have such distinct styles that you know a movie was made by them without needing to know. that's the kind of director i want to be someday, so attachment to source material is really important to me. i can't write without feeling it first, and i FEEL Carmilla.

i literally see the whole story in my head, and that's when things are easiest to write. it's always behind my eyes, i see pictures that remind me of it, i read lines in books that make me feel it, so i just know i need to get it out somehow. therefore, i will! Kane Parsons did it, so i can, too!

⋆ We're Open! And Some Updates for the Future. Oct 2, 2026

It's official! The book club is open! Our first reading schedule is posted in the Schedule tab, so look there for our check in dates. As of right now this whole thing is still a work in progress, and things will be added and updated as we go. The Contact tab is always open if you ever have amy issues, or ideas about how to make this a smoother experience!
I've also added the dates for when our next book poll will open up. November will be a bit of a slower month because of holidays, so I'm thinking I'll find some longer books for that poll to maybe hold us over through December as well. Again, I'm always taking suggestions for books and themes in the Contact tab!
Basically, bear with me while I figure all this out. I've had so much fun so far putting this together so I'm excited to update and make changes as we grow. For the future, I also want to come up with fun ways to do our check ins like having some sort of guided discussions or something, but we're starting small for our first month! Thanks so much for being here, it makes me so happy that you guys have been excited for this. Happy reading!
